LGD is a great starting point for council sites and non-council sites alike. Not only does it offer a lot of features commonly needed by councils, LGD can also help promote best practices and a common approach to digital council services.
Having built a UK council site before LGD existed, it's clear we would have saved lots of time and resources had we been able to build on top of LGD, and some of our custom code could have been contributed back as well. I'd like to help grow LGD and help public sector organisations spend their budgets more wisely. Personally, I hope to learn a lot by adding and improving the docs.
Getting involved is a great way to thoroughly learn about both the tech and the community. It's a great way to give back to society as a whole, but you need to be ready to allot a minimum of time and resources.
TrainingCloud and Hammersmith and Fulham Council
I have steered Hammersmith towards LGD for their new site build, and am working on improving the LGD docs and providing free LGD learning resources on the TrainingCloud platform.
I led Hammersmith's previous site build and migration to D7 in 2015 and have worked with them until last year when I steered LBHF towards LGD. Otherwise I have not been involved with an LGD project directly. That said, we are building course materials, we are unofficially rebuilding our local town's site with LGD, and are documenting the process from the point of view of a junior Drupal site builder with no previous LGD experience.
Other councils TrainingCloud have worked with
LBHF, SRS Wales (training). Other public sector clients include UN & EU agencies, and Audit Wales.
