Annertech and LocalGov Drupal

Annertech is active an member of the LocalGov Drupal working groups and is currently bringing several councils over to LocalGov Drupal.

They are on hand to help councils get the most from LocalGov Drupal, whether that’s migration, implementing a new design, or adding new features to your current site.

They've contributed thousands of hours to the project, as developers (including frontend lead for LocalGov CMS and microsites) and also as part of many of the working groups - technical group, product group, and microsites group to name a few.

They've always been huge believers in the "Build to Share" philosophy and have implemented that successfully in Ireland. They say they are delighted to see the same principles being applied in the UK and are very happy to share the knowledge they have about this and Drupal.

The main benefits of LocalGov Drupal for them and their council clients are the:

  • Massive cost savings on development through re-use of code and features.
  • Faster turnaround time for new sites.
  • Improved consistency between sites from different councils.
  • Lower cost of ownership for fleets of microsites.

It's a great opportunity to work on sites that directly impact local people in local councils, helping councils to save money that can then be spent on other council services.

Tipperary Council Project

Working on the Tipperary County Council website with LGD was a real "eye-opener", says Mark Conroy, Annertech's Director of Development.

Tipperary Co Co, using LGD, were able to complete most of the work they needed on their new site themselves.

They contracted Annertech for items that were either very tricky or would have been more time-consuming for them to complete in-house.

In effect, Annertech worked more as consultants than developers, and this ensured that their new website was created and launched for about 25% of what might normally be charged for a council website.

Mark added that "One of the really cool outcomes from this was that being an Irish council, LGD needed to be multilingual, so Tipperary Co. Co. financed that aspect of the work and contributed it back to the rest of the LGD community."
