A recent Community Session focused on different use cases of AI to improve council websites and services.
We had four lightning talks, demonstrating some of the work currently happening in this area.
We also carried out some Mentimeter research. Watch the presentations and read more below.
These were from:
- Creating an AI Chatbot with Copilot - Martin Waite (Webcurl)
- How Drupal CMS is using AI - Gareth Alexander (Zoocha)
- Arto: How AI assistants are helping councils serve their communities, smarter - Sam Robertshawe (Invuse)
- No More Pecking at PDFs: How Content Importer uses AI to save you time. - Justine Pocock (Chicken)
What our community think
We also asked attendees questions to understand their feelings about AI and how they currently use it in their job roles. Here's a summary of what we found.
The word cloud below depicts the answers to the question, "What's the first word that comes to mind when you hear 'AI'?" Efficiency, fear, speed, unknown and hype were frequently used.

We then asked which statement best described their stance on AI.
A small majority was generally positive about it, with a sizable minority skeptical or concerned.

We also asked what attendees use AI for. Respondents offered a range of AI tasks (around 50), including:
- summarising or writing text
- ideation
- advanced search and chatbots
- coding
- research
We're developing our work on AI over the coming months. Let us know if you'd like to be involved and watch this space for more details.
