LocalGov Drupal Dev Days 2026 Round up

We recently ran our inaugural LocalGov Drupal Dev Days. They were a huge success, we cleared loads of issues, and everyone had a great time.

It was fantastic to see so many devs from all over the UK and Ireland come together to work on the platform. We got loads done and even managed to juggle our first-ever hybrid event with more than 30 contributors joining in person and 45 online.

Day one - Learn

Day one was themed “learn” and featured our community delivering presentations to share their knowledge of the platform and showcase what they’ve been working on recently.

You can find all the sessions on our YouTube channel >

A big thanks to those who delivered sessions, including:

  • Maria Young  (ODC director and Agile Collective)
  • Andy Broomfield (Brighton and Hove City Council)
  • Graham Cole (Webcurl)
  • Ekes (Agile Collective)
  • Simon Chapman (Agile Collective)
  • Joachim Noreiko (Freelance Drupal Dev)
  • Marco Pagliarulo (Big Blue Door)

Day 2 - Contribute

Day two was all about contribution. Twenty-one devs turned out to give their time, energy and mad skills to the project. The group was able to burn through a number of knotty issues, from furthering Drupal 11 upgrades to creating a stable release of our updated elections module.

There were 9 first-time contributors, well done to them for stepping up and a big thanks to our mentors, Mark Conroy and Stephen Cox, who helped them set up and checked in with them throughout the day.

The highlights

Over 30 fixed or  reviewed by the community issues (after an extra hour on Merge Tuesday)

  • Fixed: 23
  • Needs work: 2
  • Needs Review: 8

We made major progress with LGD Elections. There’s only one issue that's a blocker to a stable release and this is a non-technical issue!  (it’s a UX/language question)

We made lots of progress on Drupal 11 updates. The project now has a full suite of integration tests working across all our submodules.

Lee Mills has almost got Recipes working for LGD - an exciting big step for our future direction.

Andy Broomfield made significant progress toward getting Better Exposed Filter support for Directory Facets live (improved UX and reduced susceptibility to Bot attacks).

You can see all the issues worked on at Drupal.org

Reviews of the day

Dan Champion - Fantastic job, all of you, thanks for a great, productive event! Up with this sort of thing.

Helga Cheberakha - Thank you very much for the opportunity to be part of the community. I really appreciate it. Many thanks to Mark and Stephen for their support. They made the whole process very smooth.

Hannah - Brilliant session, great to see everyone. Managed to get my local environment back up and running, and I'm committing again. These last two days have been brilliant, really hope they continue in the future, it's a great opportunity.

Thanks
